Each year, Google changes its search algorithm around 500–600 times. The changes made to the algorithm are minor changes however there were multiple occasions where Google released a major algorithmic update to make the search results better, faster and relevant.
We all have experienced the presence of the two major algorithms and their updates namely Panda and Panguin algorithms. Ofcourse there are other algorithms like hummingbird and Payday Loan algorithms which has not affected a huge amount of queries in search results. However, the point here is, these algorithms also update quite frequently and Google’s initiative to fight the spam and low quality website and linking techniques have certainly turned to a positive outcome in spite of affecting search results in significant ways.
For search marketers, it would have been a boon if they got to know the dates when Google is planning to release the algorithmic update in order to take necessary and corrective actions on the website they are working for. This would certainly improve the search engine optimization overall and the efficiency of the search marketers will drastically improve. However on the other hand, if everyone knows whats happening, none of them will be punished for their wrong being and they will still enjoy the getaway. Below, we’ve listed the major algorithmic changes that have had the biggest impact on search in the month of May 2014.
Its a known fact that Google has been trying to get to the spammy and low quality websites and the algorithm Panda had several updates of data refresh over the past year however Google recently confirmed that the new algorithm Panda 4.0 has data and algorithm refresh. It has also been officially confirmed that about 7.5% of English-language queries were affected. While Matt Cutts released a statement saying Panda 4.0 began rolling out on 5/20, Moz states that their data strongly suggests it started earlier.
Payday Loan 2.0 algorithm talks about very spammy queries and affects content which is really sloppy like adult content, pornographic content queries etc. Google announced that on a global scale it will only affect 0.2% of english queries. Again the number for impacted U.S. queries are merely 0.3% and has gone as high as 4% for turkish queries.
Once again there are plenty of different algorithmic updates available for Google and thanks to the efforts of Moz contributors that they have created a timeline which showcases all the updates in much more elaborative fashion.
Algorithmic Changes Timeline for Google:
We hope that google keeps working on the algorithms to make it better and nicer. It is of high importance to ensure fresh and better content for anyone’s website. Appreciate content and your website will get appreciated by Google!
